Today’s Recommended Video: Humble Thyself in the Sight of the Lord …..

I believe we have all met people who think more highly of themselves than they ought to think and they can be rather annoying. There will be non-stop boasting of their achievements, talk about what good they have done, how hard they have worked, etc. And with Facebook and other social media platforms, it is really so much easier to “show off” and tell the world all that you have done. Occasional sharing of a personal joy is different and is completely fine but some people display a pattern of constant boasting that really makes others sick. Paul found that it was a problem in the church in Rome too. And so he said in Rom.12:3, “for by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” It is the same with Christians today, some in the church today also think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think. And this has often led to people being competitive – church leaders and pastors trying to outdo each other, consciously or unconsciously, each asserting and exalting his or her viewpoint over others. While there is always room for engagement, even a little debate, to exhaust the discussion of a particular matter and to look at it from various angles, but the moment it becomes heated and angsty, something has gone terribly wrong! Humility is the value Paul was emphasizing here. If everyone would just be humble and patient, and listen to each other, respect each other even when we may have an opposing view, the church would grow in leaps and bounds! Division, pride and rebellion destroy the church while unity, humility and submission build the church. As you walk with the Lord today, let us remind ourselves not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think. Let us think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has given us. May our churches be ruled by the peace of Christ and may unity, humility and submission be our deepest values. Have a great day!

Today’s Recommended Bible Text: “3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” (Rom.12:3-8)
