The Lord warned the Magi in a dream not to go back to Herod and so after having worshipped baby Jesus and given Him gifts, they returned to their country by another route. Isn’t that amazing? That Persian priests who worshipped Persian gods would not only come a long way to worship Jesus but also risked their lives to protect Him? They knew the right thing to do and they committed themselves to doing what was right even though it was extremely risky to do so. We can certainly learn something from the Magi – to be committed to do what is right in the eyes of God even though it may cost us something or everything. For some of us, we may be easily lured by material things and wealth; others may fall prey to sexual temptations and other unholy habits easily; yet others may be easily overtaken by pride, rage and greed. When faced with any of these, we need to be committed to doing what is right before God even though it means depriving ourselves of something we want badly, even though it means we need to humble ourselves in front of people we don’t like. The example of the Magi is truly remarkable especially because they were of a different cultural and religious background. If we call ourselves Christians, then we must live like one, talk like one and serve God like one. Otherwise, we should not kid ourselves and others by putting on the Christian label and yet live like a pagan. This Christmas is a good time to think about this and if necessary, renew our commitment to the Lord. Why live in a way that you will eventually regret? Think about it. Have a great day!

Today’s Bible text: “And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.” (Mt.2:12)
