TWC – The Word Connects: Connecting you to God and to one another … Sunday 22 Jun 2014

Judges gavel and law books stacked behind

Paul told Timothy in 2Tim.4:1 that God will one day judge the living and the dead when Jesus comes again to establish His kingdom on earth. First, I would like to highlight that amidst all the preaching and teaching about how much God loves us, we also need to remind one another that the Lord will one day come and judge the living and the dead. As believers, we are called to live a certain way – a life worthy of our calling. In view of the second coming of Christ, Paul gave Timothy this charge: Preach the word, be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction. This is also what we ought to do as believers today. But are we regularly preaching the word? Are we prepared in season and out of season to do so? Or are we going through life without feeling much of a need to preach the gospel? Maybe we feel it is insensitive to do so? Are we correcting, rebuking and encouraging one another with great patience and careful instruction? Or are we just having fun and enjoying Christianity in a carnal way? We need to remember that Jesus is coming again and His second coming will be sooner than we think – it will also be sudden and will surprise many. Christians should not be caught by surprise – instead, we should be actively anticipating His second coming and in view of that, to actively be involved in the work of saving souls and discipleship. This is so important because our heavenly Father loves every person He has created and desires for none to perish. He is actively seeking true worshippers and those who have not yet entered into His vineyard. As we walk with God today, may we walk carrying within us the heart of the Father. Let us actively seek to share the gospel with the people around us. Let us strengthen one another by correcting, rebuking and encouraging one another. Let us be ready to give a good account when we one day stand before God – the One who will judge the living and the dead. Have a great day!

Today’s Bible text“1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” (2Tim.4:1-5)
