On the one hand, we take comfort in the fact that the Lord knows those who are His, yet on the other hand, we need to remember that “everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness”! (2Tim.2:19) While we are blessed, loved and saved by the Lord, yet we have the responsibility to turn away from wickedness. Paul says, “must turn away from wickedness”, not “should try to turn away from wickedness”. The Greek word for wickedness here is adikia and it refers to injustice, unrighteousness of heart and life, a deed violating law and justice, immorality and evil of every kind. It pretty much covers every wrongdoing! So a believer has the responsibility and the obligation to turn away from every form of sin and unrighteousness. It is not an option, it is an imperative. Unfortunately, many believers do not know this today because some preachers only present a sugar-coated version of grace, love and forgiveness. Their preaching endangers the faith of believers who think they have the liberty to live any way they want and yet will still be unconditionally loved by God. The fear of the Lord is no longer the beginning of wisdom, in fact, the fear of the Lord, if mentioned from the pulpit, is the beginning of migration to a church with a softer message. As you walk with God today, know that the Lord knows your name and loves you, but remember too that we are called to love Him back through living according to His righteousness. Everyone who confesses the Name of the Lord must turn away from every kind of sin, wrongdoing, unrighteousness and wickedness. Have a great day!
