The story of Abram and Lot in Gen.13 is an interesting one. Their workers could not get along and were quarreling. It was getting so bad that Abram told Lot that it was better that they went separate ways. Though Abraham was Lot’s uncle and had the right to choose the land of his preference, he allowed Lot to choose first. And so Lot chose what was clearly the better piece of land – a well watered land that was like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. Abram appeared to have a bad deal but it did not bother this man of faith. After Lot had left, the Lord spoke to Abram about the land of Canann where he lived. The Lord told him to look north, south, east and west and told him that whatever he could see is now given to him and his offspring forever! Humanly-speaking, while it looked like Abram had a bad deal, that he had a land that was not well watered, yet in the end, because of his faith in God and his righteousness, our faithful God blessed Abram and gave him more than all he could ever imagined! I think we can learn something from this. Sometimes, we may end up with a bad deal – whether it was imposed upon us or something we have intentionally chosen to avoid a conflict. But as long as we walk in righteousness and humility before God, the Lord who is faithful to those whom He has called will bless us. Isn’t He the God who turned water into wine? Isn’t He the One who parted the Red Sea? Did the Lord not say, “be bold and strong, for the Lord your God is with you” to a discouraged Joshua who had just lost a great mentor? As you walk with God today, you may feel like you have ended up with a bad deal, but do not despair. Turn to God and look to Him for guidance. And as you continue to walk righteously and follow the Lord, He will lead you into the land of abundance! Have a great day!

Today’s Bible text: 8 So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.” (Gen.13:8-9)
