We hear lots of sermons about God’s love, grace and forgiveness today but how often do we hear a sermon about obedience to God? Are you in a church where the pastor is always talking about love and grace, blessing and favor? Or are you in a church where the pastor is always talking about holiness and obedience, perseverance and suffering? Every church should preach both because they are all biblical. In Gen.12:1-3, we see all of these in play. In verse1, the Lord told Abraham to leave his country, his people and his father’s household and go to the land God will show him – which meant Abraham was supposed to obey and agree to go without knowing where he was going! Okay, first question: are you prepared to obey God even though the journey ahead, the destination and the purpose are unknown to you? Or do you need to know everything before going? In verse 2, the Lord said He will make Abraham into a great nation and will bless him for his obedience and faith. Blessing and favor are preceded by obedience and faith. We know that Abraham did obey God and left his home country and his father’s household in faith for an unknown destination. We know too that the Lord blessed him abundantly for it. As you walk with God today, blessing and favor are yours as you walk with faith and in obedience. Have a great day!

Today’s Bible text: 1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. 4 So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.” (Gen.12:1-4)
