What Do You Desire in 2021?

What do you desire, what do you want as we stand at the threshold of a new year – 2021?

I’m sure there are many good things you can think of – COVID-free airspace, travel without quarantine, unlimited guests at home and in our favourite food establishments, unlimited congregation size and unrestrained worship and fellowship in church, good health, family unity and peace, thriving business, etc. I love and look forward to all of these good things too. But I hope we desire more than these.

As faithful followers of Christ and people who regularly pray “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”, I hope and pray that our greatest desire, compelled by God’s love for us and our love for Him, is to see His Kingdom come and His will be done right here where we are.

And that means we desire to be part of God’s enterprise to influence, shape and change the world instead of letting the world influence, shape and change the church. This we do through authentic efforts and ministries founded upon an authentic walk and relationship with the Lord.

It is going to require hard work, sacrifice and strong commitment. And it is possible because the Holy Spirit is in us and is at work through us but we have to be willing to put our hands to the plough and not look back. Then the church will really change the world from generation to generation, not just in 2021.

Mt.6:9 This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
