Speaking Freely Is Not Always a Good Thing

We live in a world today where many people feel free to speak their minds and whatever we feel at the spur of the moment. We think that whatever we perceive must be the truth and and it must be reality. How wrong we can be??!! And we can end up saying things that are unreasonable and things that hurt others especially those closest to us. I have been guilty enough times of saying things to people I love and care about that angered or hurt them, what about you?

The Bible tells us, If you love life and want to see good days, you must be careful what you say and make sure you do not speak evil and do not lie or mislead people with half-truths.

If we want the Lord to bless us with good days, we must be mindful of what we say. Not only when we speak with people outside our family, but especially with family members. Don’t let familiarity breed contempt.

We are to speak truth and not be deceptive in any way – we especially need to be careful about speaking half-truths. The problem with half-truths is that we think we are not lying and we go away thinking we have spoken truth but the fact is we are being deceptive!

Let us be mindful of what we say every time we open our mouths. Let us be thoughtful, respectful and kind.

“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.” (1Pet.3:10)
