Jesus said, “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and DOES NOT UNDERSTAND IT, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.” (Mt.13:19)
The word “understand” is synieme in Greek, pronounced as sun-e-a-me. It means to comprehend, be wise and to act piously as a good and upright person.
So who are the ones who do not understand the message of the Kingdom? They are the ones who may give intellectual assent to the message, yet God’s Word doesn’t change the way they live, it doesn’t make them wiser, doesn’t make them live piously or in an upright manner. You could say these are the pew warmers, the weekly or weakly Christian, the nonchalant ones whose salvation is at risk.
Salvation involves a gift and a shift, it is not merely about the gift. There are four important things in the Christian life. We are called not only to RECEIVE the gift of salvation, but also to WALK in holiness, GIVE ourselves and our substances in and towards Christian service and finally, very importantly, MULTIPLY ourselves as true disciples into the lives of others who will go on to make disciples.
