The biblical account of Joseph (Gen.37-50) tells us something important about suffering. It tells us that Joseph became the Prime Minister of Egypt BECAUSE of his suffering, not IN SPITE OF his suffering.
The road to greatness is often, if not always marked by trials and suffering. Show me a great man or woman, and I’ll show you almost without exception, a man or a woman who has suffered much to get to where they are today.
When we remain faithful to God amidst our trials, not only do we mature in our faith, it results in praise, glory and honour to the Lord (see 1Pet.1:6,7 below)! I want my life to result in praise, glory and honour to God, don’t you?
Are you suffering? Are you discouraged, distressed or depressed as a result of your suffering? If you are, be of good cheer, God is with you amidst your suffering and your faith in Him will never be in vain. In fact, it will result in praise, glory and honour to God!
So hang in there and do not worry about tomorrow. Live one day at a time, giving thanks to the Lord for what you do have and do not allow your heart to be burdened by what you don’t have. Know that your unshakeable faith in God will lead to greatness because our God is great!
As the famous old chorus reminds us:
“This is the day, this is the day
that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made
We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it!”
“With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58 MSG
And finally, remember this, whatever you may be going through, God knows.
1 Peter 1:6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire —may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
