I have often heard people quoting Rev.12:11 in their prayer. They would pray, “Lord, we thank You that we overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony!” Let’s see what the verse says.
Rev.12:11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.
Clearly, there is a condition here – “for they loved not their lives even unto death”. That means, it is because these dear saints love not their lives even unto death, they are prepared to die for Christ and many will die for the cause of Christ, these are the ones who will conquer Satan – they will overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony – a testimony of living for Jesus, proclaiming Jesus even if it leads to death.
So when we pray Rev.12:11 about overcoming, do we meet the condition?
Christianity has become a religion mostly and merely of comfort today and that’s not wrong, it is just NOT the whole truth. Christianity is also a religion of overcoming – overcoming situations that prevent us from being truly Christian. For instance, (1) to overcome personal sin and carnal desires; (2) overcome self-interest and self-benefit; (3) overcome unwillingness, procrastination and laziness to serve the Lord, to proclaim Christ to non-believers around us and to make disciples of one another; (4) overcome Satan and his fallen angels that disguise themselves in many forms in order to lead believers astray; (5) overcome the desire to be lord of our own lives and not submit ourselves to the Lordship of Christ.
Be sure to make your faith real – know the comfort of the Lord and know too that you are an overcomer in Christ!
