Are We Really Content With the Predictable?

Are we really content with all that has become so predictable in church or do we yearn for a move of the Holy Spirit that will shake things up more than just a little bit? Are we willing to let the Holy Spirit change the order of our services? When the Holy Spirit comes in power, He usually comes in response to much prayer and groaning in our spirits. He would probably say, “I have heard the cry of My people”. (Sometimes He just comes without our asking – that’s grace. We just don’t know where and when the wind blows.) I believe that God wants to do a new thing amongst us especially in churches where things have become predictable: loud celebration and singing, passionate and emotionally-charged worship that often lacks deep spiritual, life-changing encounters, a well-crafted sermon peppered with humour and interesting stories, or a sermon that has lots of biblical data and coherence but that’s all there is to it, ministry time with the usual display of emotions and spirituality that have become a little commonplace with little real transformation taking place? (The same people keep coming back to the “altar” for prayer week after week with the same issues which should sometimes be dealt with not so much with prayer but proper discipleship.) I’m not saying nothing is happening, but it appears little is happening. Come, Holy Spirit!

Isa.43:19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
